BYU Whoops Oregon in the Las Vegas Bowl

http://www.byucougars.comI am watching the BYU-Oregon game right now. What an awesome game! I’m sure it would be a boring game for somebody not into BYU football. It’s good to see them back to their old selves.

They are a good team. It would be fun to see them play a team like Ohio State. I don’t think they would win, but it would be interesting to see what would happen.

I have been impressed with John Beck. During the Utah game, I was cursing his name and saying how he wasn’t a big time quarterback. And then he was the main guy behind an impressive comeback. It will be interesting to see where he goes after BYU. He has turned into a great quarterback.

And Johnny Harline. He will be a big-time tight end in the NFL. ‘Nuff said.

I don’t want this to sound wrong but I kind of feel bad for Oregon. It is like watching BYU circa 2002-2004. Gary Crowton needs to leave Oregon. He has proven that he is only a good coach his first year at any program. Look at his track record-Louisiana Tech, the Bears, BYU, and now Oregon. His offenses seem unstoppable and then he gets figured out and he doesn’t adjust. They start getting real bad towards the end of the season in his second year. Every time!

Just like tonight, they did not make one offensive adjustment. They can’t decide on a quarterback. They get a ton of penalties. Did you see how much bigger the Oregon receivers were compared to the BYU secondary? Bellotti needs a new o-coordinator. Crowton needs to switch jobs every year. Be sure to stay out of Provo.

Anyway back to the Cougars. Something needs to be said about their defense as well. Even missing some starters, they have played awesome. They did it all year. The best decision Bronco made all year was going to a 4-3 defense from his 3-3-5 that he was so famous for.

Bronco Mendenhall and Robert Anae have had to actually learn how to coach. I think coaching is the primary reason they lost the Arizona game. Since, they have learned how to call a great game, adjust when necessary, and to keep the team disciplined. They don’t get penalized nearly as much as they did last year.

It’s a final. BYU 38 Oregon 8. Not the offensive shootout the “experts” were saying it was going to be.

How about the Mountain West conference in bowl games? They are 2-0 so far with 2 more to go.

That is funny! We were at the church tonight playing basketball. My friend Dave is a huge Cougar fan. Everyone that was playing basketball was talking about how BYU crushed Oregon and proved that they are a really talented team. JP started talking about all the Cougar faithful and how 99% of them would immediately start to say how the Cougs should be playing “Ohio State, Michigan, or Florida.” When JP said that everyone starting laughing, and we were giving Dave a hard time. I had mentioned that you have a blog and I knew you would probably be the first Cougar fan blogging about the game. I just didn’t know you would be the first Cougar fan actually thinking about BYU playing on the same field with Ohio St. I am confident Ohio St would win with their backups in the game!

Josh, it was a great game and they crushed Oregon. I am confident as well that BYU couldn’t hang with Michigan, OSU, or even LSU or Florida. This is probably BYU’s best team since 1996. They have a good defense, a great offense and when Beck plays good, they can hang with most teams. The problem is who is going to stop the big time WR’s in those big time programs?

I just wish there was a playoff in college football. It’s lame that there’s nothing like that. The bowls don’t really prove anything.

  • [...] It looks like Crowton is following my advice by getting out of Eugene. He needs to make sure to stay at LSU for only one year. Most likely he won’t. I want LSU fans to know why Gary Crowton is going to cause you pain when he stays more than one year. [...]
